I am creating several online courses in genealogy, from introductory and beginners’ courses, to more advanced courses for gaining further insight into your ancestors.
At present, there are three courses available: my Free introductory course, my step-by-step guide, “UK Family History Research for the Beginner Genealogist” and “Researching Wills and Probate”. I am building up a portfolio of courses, so please bookmark this page and come back for updates.
The courses on Udemy are at a higher price – but these are often discounted, so do check this site out first as you can often get the course at a much lower price.
FREE INTRODUCTORY COURSE TO GENEALOGY
This course serves as a prelude to my beginner’s course (below), introducing the learner to the background of genealogy itself – how and why it began, and how it has developed over time. You will also learn about the history of surnames, and some very crucial tips and advice on using the internet for research.
This course is for anyone who wants to find out more about genealogy before starting their own research – or for anyone who is just curious about the history and development of this fascinating hobby.

Ms. Bott is a wonderful lecturer and easy to listen to. UK FAMILY HISTORY RESEARCH FOR THE BEGINNER GENEALOGIST

This is my basic, genealogy for beginners course for anyone who would like to trace their UK ancestors, but have no or little experience of genealogical research. This course teaches you how to start genealogy research, and leads you, step-by-step, through the basic procedures you need to take to start tracing your ancestors. For each source, I will explain its history, what information you can gather from it, and I will also show you how I carry out the research on each main source, using screen captures and videos. You will be able to start your own research as you progress through the course, and by the end of the course, will have gone back several generations into your own family’s history.

This course will guide you through the process of searching for, ordering and reading wills and probate records. I also explain the different types of probate records, and structure of wills, and what kind of genealogical information can be obtained from them.
