Pre census records can be difficult for your poorer ancestors if you cannot find them in the parish registers. While our wealthier ancestors left wills and land documents, what records can be found for the less than wealthy? Don't despair! If you are lucky, there may be some records where you can find your pauper or working class ancestors in the centuries preceding the 19th century. In this video I explain what these are, and how to research them. NB - I apologies for the quality of the audio in certain parts of this video - there was nothing I could do about this without completely re-recording, but I hope it doesn't detract too much from the information. Why is My Ancestor Missing from the Census?
In the past, naming patterns for children were much stronger than today. Understanding these can sometimes help with sorting out which family your ancestor belonged to. Using Naming Patterns in Genealogy Research
Genealogical research before the 19th century is often more difficult because we do not have the census records to tell us where a person was born. In this video, I come across the problem of a 'possible' baptism - but shows how important it is not to make assumptions, and the complications of research when an ancestor becomes elusive.
